GWADAR: Electricity supply to the Makran division — encompassing Gwadar, Turbat, and Panjgur — was fully restored on Sunday after a 24-hour outage caused by a disruption in power transmission from Iran.

The blackout occurred following the suspension of supply through two 132kV transmission lines that connect Iran to Pakistan’s coastal region. The affected areas included key grid stations at Mand, Tump, Turbat, Hoshab, Panjgur, Jiwani, Gwadar Door, Gwadar Deep Sea Port, New Gwadar International Airport, Pasni, and Ormara.

A spokesperson for the Quetta Electric Supply Company (Qesco) confirmed that Iranian authorities were promptly contacted, and repair work was carried out to fix the distribution fault on Iran’s side.

“Power supply was successfully restored on Sunday after the technical fault in the Iranian distribution system was resolved,” the spokesperson stated.

Pakistan relies on electricity imports from Iran to meet the needs of the sparsely populated Makran region, which remains disconnected from the national grid due to logistical and commercial viability challenges.
